Let's embrace Oils, no matter your age!

Let's embrace Oils, no matter your age!

Facial oils- if your skin errs towards oily or acne prone, the thought of applying an oil to your skin will no doubt make you shudder.

We’re here to shake those oil misconceptions. Gone are the facial oils of yesteryear that cause your skin to feel weighty, sticky and clogged. Today’s oils are formulated specifically with your skin in mind, meaning there’s a suitable oil for every age and every skin type and texture. Everyone can reap the benefits of facial oils- the trick is choosing the right oil for you.

We’re taking the guesswork out of choosing a facial oil. Read our quick guide and start embracing natural facial oils today.

Oils at every age

If you’re a teen (or are the parent of a teenager), now is a great time to start using a natural facial oil. Teenage skin is prone to excess oil production and, in turn, acne, but depriving the skin of moisture is not the solution. A lighter oil, like Jojoba, can work to restore balance to the skin’s oil and water levels and ensure pubescent skin is functioning at its healthiest.

When we’re tired and not taking care of ourselves, it shows on our skin. As you reach your late 20s and 30s your skin can slowly but surely begin to display visible signs of aging, so fatty-acid-rich facial oils can restore a radiance and suppleness to the skin to keep the complexion looking youthful.

Oils are particularly beneficial for mature skin. Fine lines and wrinkles appear more pronounced when the skin is lacking moisture, so a natural facial oil can work to “plump up” the skin and fill out those fine lines. Oils can also work as a wonderful base for makeup for the same reason, filling in those lines to allow for your foundation to glide over the skin with ease. Age spots and pigmentation are another side effect of aging, so choose a Vitamin C rich facial oil to brighten those spots and even out the overall complexion.

How to multitask with oils

We love a beauty product that we can multitask with, and the benefits of facial oils don’t end at skincare.

If you have a foundation that you find too matte, thick in texture or high in coverage, mix it with a drop of your favorite facial oil to sheer it out. This will give the skin a beautiful, almost “lit from within” glow as well as delivering you skincare benefits through your foundation.

Oils are also a wonderful hair treatment. We recommend applying a drop or two (depending on your hair’s thickness and texture) to dry and split ends to restore moisture and shine to the hair. Apply your oil while the hair is still damp to avoid weighing it down.

You can also use your facial oil as a nail and cuticle treatment- simply massage a drop of oil into the nail beds for healthy nails and soft cuticles.

Which oil is right for you?

If your skin is acne prone, choose a light facial oil like the Sukin Bionatural Skin Oil. This natural oil is suitable for all skin types, and is rich in Jojoba Oil to balance the skin’s oil production, Vitamins C, E and F to brighten and soften the skin, and Rosehip, Avocado and Carrot Seed Oils to improve the skin’s texture. If your skin is prone to extreme oil over production, choose a lightweight serum rather than a traditional oil texture to deliver similar benefits to the skin without clogging the pores.

To brighten and restore moisture to dull, tired skin, choose a natural oil like Sukin’s Restoring Argan Oil+. This oil blends Argan with Maracuja, Rosehip, Jojoba, Sunflower and Wheat Germ Oils to restore much needed hydration to overworked skin, while Calendula Flower Extract and Vitamin E work to combat premature signs of skin aging.

For mature skin types, opt for the Sukin Purely Ageless Hydration Elixir. Rich in Crambe Oil and Vitamins A and E, this natural oil works to deliver almost instant hydration to dehydrated skin while reducing the appearance of wrinkles by up to 50%.
