What's the difference between Physical, Mineral or Chemical Suncreen?

Let’s face it- sunscreens can be overwhelming! Physical? Mineral? Chemical? Natural? What does it all mean, and how do we know which is the best? Like many skincare products, SPF can be confusing, so we put together this fool proof guide to everything sun protection.

Physical Sunscreens contain active mineral ingredients, such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, which work by sitting on top of the skin to deflect and scatter damaging UV rays away from the skin. These are great because they’re less likely to clog your pores, however, they can often leave a film on the skin and can be rubbed off easily on those hot, sweaty days.

Chemical Sunscreens are organic, carbon-based compounds that are absorbed into the skin and convert UV rays into heat. These tend to be a thinner solution which is great for everyday use and allow the consumer to mix in other skincare products easily.

At Sukin, we have formulated our Sheer Touch SPF 30 with Zinc Oxide broad spectrum protection and daily use in mind. Our formula is non-greasy and free from oxybenzone and octanoate, making it Reef Safe to keep our oceans’ healthy. Our Sheer Touch SPF 30 comes in 3 varieties, Untinted, Light to Medium, and Medium to Dark, all containing Rosehip Oil, Green Tea, and Cucumber to nourish your skin without leaving a white cast!
