5 Top Tips to Help Support Wellness

5 Top Tips to Help Support Wellness

Hello Beautiful Community,

We wanted to share some knowledge and tools from our Resident Kinesiologist Janine, that will help support you to feel empowered during this uncertain time with COVID-19.

Here are our 5 top tips to help support wellness through your mind, body and spirit during this time.

1. Practice mindfulness

When you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious or in a state of panic try practicing mindfulness as a way to improve your headspace. Mindfulness is the practice of purposely and consciously focusing your attention on the present moment and accepting it without judgment. Sit quietly and focus on your natural breathing for a couple of minutes. Then try naming 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can feel, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste.

2. Hand Hygiene

Be extra mindful of what you’re touching. This is a good time to review what proper handwashing looks like. Wash your hands with warm soapy water regularly for 20 seconds throughout the day and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth in public.

3. Nutrition

By far the most impactful and within your control is your diet. Eat plenty of whole foods, fruit, and vegetables as these all have the nutrients you need to help fight infection and boost your immune system. Avoid processed sugars as this can weaken your immune system. Try to eat a variety of foods, not only does this help your gut microbiome but also gives you a variety of nutrients. Add immunity protective herbs to your dishes such as rosemary, oregano, thyme, turmeric, ginger, garlic, and onions.

4. Exercise and get out in nature

Regular exercise is one of the pillars of healthy living. Just like a healthy diet, exercise can contribute to general good health and therefore to a healthy immune system. Get some fresh air each day by spending some time bare feet in nature, this will also help ground your energy, making you feel more calmer, clearer and relaxed. This is the perfect time to roll out your yoga mat underneath a tree to find your inner Zen.

5. Stay hydrated

One of the benefits of drinking water is that adequate hydration has a huge impact on your immune system. Water helps all of your body's systems function at optimum levels. Drinking plenty of water flushes toxins and ensures that your cells get all of the oxygen they need to function. You should be aiming for at least 2L a day. Try adding lemon into your water, as the citrus is full of Vitamin C which boosts immune cells.
